Report on an Interactive Session on Women Health and Hygiene Conducted by The Health Club-Swasthya on 18-12-2021
Health Club – Swasthya, conducted an offline interactive talk on “Feminine Hygiene and Green Periods”, on 17 December, 2021 at 11:00 am -12:00 pm and 2 pm to 3 pm. in the seminar hall for first year girls, of all courses.

Keeping in mind the objective of promoting health and hygiene as a part of everyday lifestyle and to convert students towards sustainable living with a view to instil a sense of responsibility towards protecting and saving environment, Health club took a vanguard step towards this goal.

The event was organised and conducted under the stewardship of Dr.Prachi Tripati, Health Club coordinator, Ms.Shirisha Balagam, Manjula Deshpande and Ms.Amrutha were the convenors of the webinar.

Ms.Meenakshi Bharath, is a Gynacologist of 35 years of Experience and specialised in Infertility treatment . Her medical practice consisted of making it easy for couples to undergo treatment to have children.

Prevention is better than cure has always been her mantra. Her other passion stems from this mantra as she looks to prevent diseases created by garbage. From segregation to composting to using only reusables and having a waste free wedding for her children, she is extremely active in converting people to sustainable ways of living.

Having retired from active medical practice in 2018, she brings her passion for Gynaecology and waste management together in the campaign " green the red" advocating reusable menstrual hygiene products like cloth pads and menstrual cups. Her aim is to make all women enjoy their periods and not hate it.

The Program was conducted as an offline Interactive talk, where in the girls had a lively interactive discussion after the presentation. Health Club took the initiative in conducting three talk sessions on 17 th December and 18th December 2021. All the first, second and third year students were introduced to the benefits of Health and Hygiene and the need for sustainable menstrual hygiene. The initiative taken by the Health Club helped the students ( girls), Faculty members and non- teaching staff to ask questions related to health, hygiene and green periods.

Ms.Smita Kulkari, the resource person had shown few videos and PPT on sustainable Menstrual hygiene on how to insert and remove Menstrual cups, on the need to start using reusable cloth pads. She had got few Menstral cups and Cotton, handmade, safe and environment friendly pads made by the women of stone soup petals ventures; which are said to be cost effective, rash free, safe and long lasting.

Few teachers and students who had already used menstrual cups shared their experience regarding the same and they declared themselves as proud cupverts.

Positive feedback was received from the participants. Participants had expressed their interest in participating in more of such events in the near future and in buying and using Menstrual cups and cotton cloth pads.
