The webinar “Unique and Futuristic careers for students after 12th ” was organised by Department of science, St. Francis College, Bengaluru on 8th May 2021 , Saturday, via zoom from 10:00 am to 11:45 am to introduce new plethora of career opportunities and to start thinking beyond engineering and medicine. The resource person for the event was Dr. Nandkishore Rathi, who is the CEO and Chief Navigating Officer at Loratis career solutions. He has promoted Loratis with the sole objective of career guidance and employability development of students. The hosts for the event were SuregaSuresh of BA , 1st year and Aleena Reji of BSc MSE, 2nd year. The event started with a small prayer and then Aleena Reji welcomed the gathering with a quote ,“Don’t lose hope while others give up, because a ray is enough to win the battle. welcoming the chief guest, Director Br. Antony Vayalil , Deputy Director Br. Peter , Principal Dr. R N Subbarao, all teaching staff, parents and students.

Surega Suresh invited the director of St.Francis College, Br Antony Vayalil to address the gathering where he talked about qualities that are required to succeed in a career , real life skills required beyond academics , he was interested to acknowledge students more about the perspective of long term success, educational and non educational development in career and lot more . Then Dr Nazura (department of computer applications) gave us a glimpse on the courses available in our college.

Later, The guest speaker who has guided and trained more than 20000 people so far. Business Today referred him as HR Guru for IT firms. He is a winner of “Mercer Asia 2003 awards” instituted by Mercer Human Resource Consulting, USA. He has also worked with Oracle corporation at bangalore as director of campus relations. Prior to joining oracle, he was working with IIT Bombay as placement incharge for nine years. He has pursued his PhD in human resource management from IIT, Bombay. He has also pursued MBA in marketing, masters in industrial relations and personal management and also bachelors in mechanical engineering Dr. Nandkishore Rathi was introduced to the gathering and he gave us an amazing presentation about how it can be beneficial to take a third party perception on your career and shared his personal experience about how he saw changes in students and parents perspective in this last 10 years. Then, he asked various questions and conducted activities were everyone took part enthusiastically. He asked about everyone's favourite food and hobbies, 2 major strengths , 2 professional dreams etc to understand how clear everyone's thoughts are and to show us how different and unique every person is from each other. Dr. Nandkishore Rathi then asked the audience to ask themselves about, in next 12 years what type of job you would prefer, the salary range your aiming, the state of mind you wish to have and he also said that no one wants to be not interested in their work so in a witty way he says that - When you are a Bahubali there shouldn't be any Kattappas. After this he conducted a small q&a session for the first round and answered few questions.

In the next round, he started by showing us few screenshots from a video of students who followed their dream after realising that the course they have taken is not what they wanted to do and how Dr. Rathi and his team could make it possible for them by guiding and suggesting them other courses other than medical and engineering. Courses like fine arts, Mathematics, life science and research , entertainment, Music, communication and writing, commercial art and design, social service and mental health, information technology and computers, nature agriculture and environment, machine and mechanical trades, construction, primary education, teaching and instruction , career guidance, law & government, protective services and public safety, service and hospitality, management and administration, merchandising and marketing, human resources, financial and business services, clerical and administrative support, sales and business development and many more. He said that the secret of success is Scientific decision making and getting the right education, right discipline , right attitude to work and people, personality development, interest development and ability development because a person's potential and possibilities are like a real huge banyan tree but wrong decisions will make a plastic banyan tree.

Dr. Nandkishore Rathi said,
“Nothing is certain about the future. Everything will be unpredictable and constantly changing- people, lifestyle, places , industry , profiles , jobs ....
Except two things- Your talent and Your passion
Never compromise on them , Never ignore them.
Else, you will find yourself lonely and lost.”


The hosts asked the audience to go ahead and take some time and type their questions in the chat box. There were many questions answered by our guest speaker and every question conveyed a dream. It was very overwhelming to watch how students and the other members wanted to know more about few other fields and how they can also achieve their passion.
Then the amazing session ended.
